About this artwork
This piece is a sculptural installation of a handmade wooden stick for hiking, which was collected from a cave in the Mount Vitosha. The stick is placed in a horizontal position on a base, symbolising mortality. It balances the composition, while activating the space as a central part of the installation.
Back in the studio, I used this stick as an extension of my brush. With this practice, I imagined that the mountain added its own energy to the paintings of the wishes and intentions of the people. With this “Mortality” stick, I performed a magic ritual, while I was painting, like the Shamans. But in my case, I was praying for the lost harmony between human and nature.
