About this artwork
The artworks titled “Locus et Homines” consists of three individual sections. The inspiration for these artworks was the herbal world, the folk tradition and cultural heritage of Spetses. In addition, the creation of the artworks was significantly influenced by the communication with the inhabitants of the island.
Three triangular pieces of coarse fabric create a geometric synthesis in space, and on them, there were embroidered different patterns related to the sea. For the embroidery, specific colours were chosen that are associated with vegetal and natural elements of the island. Ropes were also embroidered on the edge of the fabrics, which create knots and ties. The practices of knots and ties is common in folk tradition as they appear on the edges of carpets, wefts, tablecloths.
